I am currently working as a project Safety and Health Representative for Portage at the Moab UMTRA project. This project has given me valuable experience in working in the DOE environment. I have gained extensive knowledge in the ISMS process and how it is used to ensure worker involvement in the planning and executing work. I have become familiar with DOE’s high expectations for safe sustained production. In my role at the Moab project I have been responsible for IH sampling, developing plans and procedures, planning and over site of hoisting and rigging activities, heavy equipment operations, and rail transportation of hazardous wastes. I have been the site safety officer providing coverage for all operations including BBS steering committee and Safety Committee teams. My strong points include the ability to communicate effectively with craftsmen, management and the DOE customer. My experience in construction gives me a solid working knowledge of how to integrate safety into work activities in an efficient and effective way utilizing procedures, standards and worker feedback. At Hogan Construction I acted as the project Safety and Health Representative. In this role I was responsible for preparation and presentation of weekly and monthly safety meetings. I was the project SME on fall protection, heavy equipment, hand and power tools, hoisting and rigging and excavation safety. As the project Health and Safety Representative I was responsible for investigation and reporting of injuries.

While working at Custom Mechanical Design I was an HVAC technician and safety team lead for several company projects. In this role I was responsible for reporting injuries to the safety manager as well as assisting in determining and implementing corrective actions for safety related incidents. I acted as the person responsible for training new hire employees to company safety policies and for improving safety culture throughout the company.

 

STEVENS, CONSTRUCTION                                                                                             SAFETY TEAM LEAD

1992-2006

 

While working for Stevens Construction I acted as a foreman, carpenter and equipment operator before being assigned the project safety representative. In this role I was responsible for daily site safety inspections, training of new hires to company safety procedures and developing and presenting tailgate safety meetings. I also acted as the employee concerns coordinator responsible for ensuring that safety concerns were addressed and that results were conveyed back to project employees.

 

 

PHIPPS  CONSTRUCTION                                                 CARPENTER/EQUIPMENT OPERATOR

At Phipps Construction I was a carpenter foreman responsible for safe completion of restoration work associated with flood, fire and disaster construction repair. This type of work required extensive pre planning to ensure structural integrity acceptable prior to beginning work on damaged buildings.
